Michael Burgess

England

Profile

When you show no signs of discomfort facing the likes of Rangana Herath, Suranga Lakmal and a sharp Dushmantha Chameera, there got to be something special. And when you manage to weave a flawless 98 on a murky day in Grace Road, Leicester, against that attack, it's got to be even more special. Burgess was just another promising talent in the county circles until he churned out a splash-worthy knock against the visiting Sri Lankan side in May 2016.

Known for his ever-optimistic approach, Burgess played a lot of grade cricket in Australia before representing Loughborough in First Class cricket in 2014. Burgess is a very strong back foot player and is known to be a smart operator of the feet against spin. A Surrey county product, Burgess played for the club at various levels before being associated with MCC and Sussex. He is seen as a potential replacement for Ben Brown and with time, his opportunities are going to be on the rise with improved first-class batting average which now (as of June 2018) sits at 47.56.
