Profile

Ryan Murray, the 19-year old wicketkeeper-batsman is being widely considered as a replacement for Brendan Taylor in the Zimbabwe team. He was picked for the tri series featuring Bangladesh and Sri Lanka in January 2018. He wasn't handed the ODI cap in the series but he substituted for Brendan Taylor in a match against Sri Lanka.

Both Brendan Taylor and Hamilton Masakadza are in their thirties and Zimbabwean cricket is looking for young talents that can fill in their shoes after the stalwarts call it a day. Ryan was a part of the Zimbabwe Academy which went on a tour of England in the winters of 2017. Tatenda Taibu, the convener of selectors has set up this academy to nurture young talents and Ryan has graduated from this process.

Ryan hardly has any first class experience but the highlight of his career was the knock of 131 runs from 112 deliveries in a Cricket South Africa franchise club match. He isn't a finished product yet and needs to be backed by the selectors to provide him the much needed confidence at this stage of his career.
