Profile

Dominic Bess was out shopping with his girlfriend when he got the call from England's chairman of selectors - Ed Smith - that he was selected for the home series against Pakistan. Only 20 years and 16 first-class games old, Dom Bess is an off-spinner.

It was against Pakistan back in 2016 when Bess had made his first-class debut and had dubious figures of none for 128. But then he debuted for Somerset and picked up 6 for 21 in his Championship debut game against Warwickshire. His wickets included former England Internationals Ian Bell and Jonathan Trott. He backed it up with another fifer in the next game.

Hailing from a small county in Devon, Bess has also represented England at the under-19 level and thanks to the merit of his offies, he got a chance to travel to Adelaide to train in Darren Lehmann Cricket Academy in the 2015/16 season.

Post that there has been no stopping the offie. His exploits has seen cricket experts naming the wicket at Taunton as 'Ciderabad' thanks to the appreciable turn that Bess and his Somerset teammate Jack Leach have extracted.

It was at the expense of Leach, who broke this thumb, that Bess has got his maiden call up to don the Three lions jersey.
