Profile

Yet another product to come of the Nondescripts Cricket Club, LasithEmbuldeniya rose quickly from the domestic ranks into the national setup. A left-arm spinner by trade, he started off in the 2016-17 Premier League Tournament. His stocks rose quickly as he was named a part of the Colombo squad for the Super Four Provincial Tournament in 2018, with a spot in the Sri Lankan team for the ACC Emerging Teams Asia Cup to follow.

An injury to the otherwise lead spinner, DilruwanPerera, meant Embuldeniya got his debut cap on the tour to South Africa at Durban on the 2019 tour, and he impressed instantly with a fifer in what were essentially seamer-friendly conditions, to set up what eventually turned out to be a historic Sri Lankan victory.

Given the consistency and the accuracy he showed in his first outing, and with age on his side, he could well be the person Sri Lanka turn to in this post-Herath era.
