Profile

A left-arm spinner who can also be handy with the bat, Matthew Kuhnemann was one of the six Rookies in Queensland's 2016-17 squad. Apart from the left-arm spinner, the other players who earned rookie contracts that season were Xavier Bartlett, Max Bryant, Brendan Doggett, Jack Prestwidge an Bryce Street. Hailing from Gold Coast, Kuhnemann made his List-A debut for Cricket Australia XI against New South Wales at Sydney in October, 2017.

The left-arm spinner has even represented Australia Under19 team and bagged 35 wickets in Queensland’s Premier Cricket competition in 2015-16. In his first List-A game, he got the wicket of Kurtis Patterson and took a catch to dismiss Peter Nevill. He was the last man to be dismissed in that particular game as New South Wales beat Cricket XI by 93 runs.

Developing a reputation for bowling tight and economical spells while having great control, Kuhnemann found success in the shortest format following his debut for the Brisbane Heat in the 2018/19 season. Amongst the top left-arm spinners going around in the country, Kuhnemann made his ODI debut for Australia in a series against Sri Lanka in 2022.

He was called up to the Test side for Australia's tour of India in 2023 and made his Test debut following the unavailability of Ashton Agar and Mitchell Swepson. He picked up a career best 5/16 in his second Test.
