Profile

Someone with an ability to rattle batters with his sheer pace, Gus Atkinson made his international debut in September 2023 against New Zealand. It was a fantastic debut for Atkinson as the lanky pacer troubled the NZ batters with his pace and bounce and picked 4 wickets in the match. As a result of Atkinson's excellent spell, NZ were bundled for a paltry total and England won the game by a huge margin. In the following game, Atkinson picked two wickets and finished the series being England's leading wicket-taker. Having impressed in the T20I format, Atkinson made his ODI debut against the same oppostion i.e NZ, however, the fast bowler wasn't able to impress in the ODIs. Not only did he fail to pick a wicket, but also proved to be quite expensive in his first game. His economy was close to 7 on ODI debut. Gus is a part of England's World Cup squad for 2023, however, with the presence of bowlers like Mark Wood, Chris Woakes, Reece Topley, Sam Curran and David Willey, it will be interesting to see if Atkinson gets a chance to break into the playing XI. Just early days in his career, he's only 25 years old, but definitely has a long career ahead given his potential.
