Profile

Ruvindu Gunasekera, a Sri Lankan-born Canadian cricketer, first started playing the game taking inspiration from his father Niron Gunasekara, who was a player on the Sri Lanka A cricket team. Gunasekara immigrated to Toronto, Canada in 2006 and enrolled at the University of Toronto Scarborough in 2010, pursuing a degree in management.

Gunasekara made his ODI debut at the age of 16 in July 2008 against Bermuda. He was then an important part of the 2010 Under-19 World Cup 2010 Qualifiers in which he scored 207 runs, including two half-centuries and helped Canada qualify for the main tournament.

Gunasekara has been a major part of the senior Canadian side since 2010. He has scored 6 fifties for them so far and remains their first-choice as an opener. He has been responsible in providing them good starts in the limited overs format. Although, he has not played much of T20 cricket, first making his debut in March 2012 against Netherlands, he has adapted to the format well.
