Sri Lanka
Educated at Nalanda college, Gihan Rupasinghe, earned the reputation of being a big hitter in the middle-order. He also captained the Nalanda College first XI team in 2006. He made his first-class debut in the same year for Tamil Union Cricket and Athletic Club against Sebastianites Cricket and Athletic Club. He was then a part of the Sri Lanka Under-17 and Under-19 sides. He was the second-highest scorer for Tamil Union in the Premier League tournament in 2008-09.
The season was fruitful for him as he scored 945 runs at 52.50 in first-class cricket. His consistent performances earned him a spot in the A team and he scored two fifties in the unofficial Tests against Pakistan A. With that, he was included in Sri Lanka's T20I squad against New Zealand at home. He played in both the T20Is but was not able to make any significant contribution. He has not been recalled in the national side since then, however, he continues to play first-class cricket. He has over 3000 first-class runs as of now.
