Profile

Having played under the shadow of Matt Prior for the most part of his early career, Ben Brown had enormous boots to fill at Sussex where he established himself not only as one of County's best wicket-keeper batsman but also as a leader of the side. Brown took his time to reclaim himself after being in and out of the side and found a great rhythm post the 2014 English summer.

During the 2016 County season, Sussex's regular captain Luke Wright could only manage six Championship matches with Brown taking over responsibilities for a major part of the tournament. Brown didn't show any signs of being under pressure as he thrived in challenging conditions to amass loads of runs averaging over 50 - composing a brilliant undefeated 159 against Glamorgan while at it. That season not only benefited Brown to hone his skills with the bat, but he came out in flying colors with his captaincy skills which were apparent when he took over as the full-time captain of Sussex, midway through the 2017 season. Luke Wright, the then regular captain, cited personal reasons for his exit from the role and ensured a smooth transition in the side.

Brown, a very loyal Sussex servant, showed great interest in the sport from a very young age and was nurtured by the club since his under-11 days. With Matt Prior's England commitments and Andy Hodd's switch to Yorkshire, Ben Brown will count himself fortunate to have nailed a spot in the Sussex side and will be content with his county career graph thus far.
