Profile

Controversy has been the favourite of Zulqarnain Haider. He made news in November 2010, after quitting the ODI series against South Africa mid-way saying he was receiving death threats. He explained he had been asked to lose the fourth match of the ODI series in the UAE, a match where he eventually hit the winning runs.

Haider immediately retired from international cricket, and sought asylum in the United Kingdom. Eventually, in April 2011, he withdrew his asylum application and returned to Pakistan.

As a player, Haider was gutsy and known for his fighting abilities. On the tour of England in 2010, where he was the second choice keeper behind Kamran Akmal, Haider got his chance in the Birmingham Test. In the second innings of the match, Haider top-scored with a gutsy 88, the highest score of the match, as he helped Pakistan stave off an innings defeat.
