Profile

Ervine is another one of those Zimbabwe players who rebelled against the Cricket Union and left to play County cricket. Before leaving his country, he had played 42 ODIs and 5 Tests. A medium pace bowler who became more than a handy lower order batsman. Ervine started his career with Midlands cricket team in Zimbabwe and made his debut in the 4th match against England in 2001. He had to wait for 2 years after that to get his first Test cap and he got that against England at Lords in 2003.

Ervine last played for Zimbabwe in 2004. After which he signed a contract with the County side Hampshire. His stint with them started off on a positive note as he scored hundreds in the semi-final and final of the 2005 C&G cup which led them to the title. He won a few more trophies with Hampshire, notably the 2009 and 2010 County Championship. Ervine also got his highest first-class score during the 2010 season, when he scored 237 against Somerset. That score is the highest by a Hampshire batsman coming below No. 6.

In Februrary 2010, Ervine returned to his country of birth and played a few first-class games with brother Craig. He also scored 208 and 160 against the Mid West Rhinos. Looking at these performances he was selected for the 2011 World Cup in India. However, he pulled out weeks before the start and opted to go back to County cricket. He went on and signed a contract with Hampshire until the end of 2016.
