Barney Rogers

Zimbabwe

Profile

Rogers, like Alistair Campbel was a natural right-hander but his father changed him to a left-hander citing that the strong hand must be at the top of the handle. He was enrolled in the CFX Academy in 2001 and impressed David Houghton immediately by scoring 4 fifties in 5 games in the Logan Cup.

Rogers was selected for the series against Pakistan in November 2002 and he made his debut in the first game. He was not consistent enough at the top of the order. By joining the rebellion, he was one of the men who got the axe from ZCB. However, Rogers along with Gavin Ewing and Charles Coventry were the first players to settle the dispute. Hence making him available for selection for the tour of Bangladesh. After having a mediocre Test series, he excelled in the ODIs and won the Man of the Series award. But, another issue with contracts saw him being sidelined, and he has since not played for Zimbabwe.

Interesting Facts: Rogers also represented Zimbabwe at hockey at the U-20 level and has a hobby of spear-fishing.
