Profile

The wicket-keeper-batsman from Colombo, Brendon Kuruppu, is still well-known for compiling the slowest double ton ever in the history of First-Class cricket. To make it even better, his 201 that came off 777 minutes was essayed against a Richard Hadlee-led pace attack in Colombo, 1987. Kuruppu also became only the third player to amass a double ton on Test debut.

Unfortunately, he got the chance to represent his country in only four Tests. The last of them coming against England at Lord's in 1991. Kuruppu though, was more of a regular member of the ODI side. He shone brightly particularly in the 1983 World Cup by composing a couple of fifties. Interestingly, despite scoring the slowest double century in First-Class cricket, Kuruppu was known more as a dasher with the bat in hand.
