Profile

Manzoor was the eldest of the Elahi bothers - Zahoor and Saleem - to play for Pakistan. A medium pacer who was not from the intimidating school of bowlers was someone who was handy with the bat down the order.

His record in Tests is nothing to write home about though it spanned over more than a decade(1984-1995) but he played only 6 Tests. The last of the Tests ended with a pair of ducks and two wickets. The bargain ensured he was never picked again. His longevity in ODIs was an eventful one as he kick-started his limited overs career against arch-rivals India with a Man of the Match performance. 36 runs with the bat and two wickets with the ball sealed the result of the game in Pakistan's favour.

In December 1986, Pakistan were playing an ODI against India and bowled the Indians out for 144. A game reduced to 45 overs per side saw Pakistan slipping to 65 for 6 before a 50 off 54 balls from Manzoor took the game away from India to hand Pakistan a tense 3-wicket win. A couple of games later, Asif Mujtaba and Manzoor Elahi were involved in another heist of a run-chase. Chasing 274 to win at Perth against the Aussies, Pakistan were reeling at 129 for 6 before Asif and Manzoor joined hands to steady the ship. Manzoor got out but Asif took Pakistan home with a ball to spare.
