Profile

An all-rounder, Asif Mujtaba was given his ODI debut against the then mighty West Indies when he was barely 19. He failed to translate his domestic success onto the big stage and was dropped soon after.

He then fought his way back to international cricket in 1992 on the basis of some rich returns at the domestic level. He scripted a Test fifty at Lord's, enabling Pakistan prevail by 2 wickets. However, he lacked consistency as a result of which he never really nailed a permanent spot in the XI. He had his moments during his ODI career like - his undefeated 113 against Sri Lanka in the Pepsi Champions Trophy, wherein he carried his bat throughout the innings, his last ball six off Steve Waugh to snatch a thrilling tie for Pakistan in 1992-93- but drifted away from the international radar. He last played for Pakistan in a Test against Sri Lanka in 1997.
