Profile

A right arm offie who would ease into his run-up from wide of the crease, Akram Raza tried filling the big boots of Tauseef Ahmed. But ended up with only 9 Tests and 49 ODIs to his credit. After a wicketless spell in his first game, he managed to scalp Desmond Haynes and Richie Richardson in his second Test at Faisalabad. But 6 of his 13 Test wickets came in a single game at Colombo against the Lankans and he could never make the cut after a few failed attempts post that.

His stint with the shorter format though was longer and despite being ignored for the 1992 World Cup campaign, Raza continued to ply his trade at the top level post that. His name though featured in the Justice Qayyum report as he was one of the five players who were fined for non-cooperation during the enquiry.

He went onto to become an umpire at the national level and despite making rapid strides had to retire in 2013 after he alleged the PCB of mistreating him. This as he was banned by the PCB a year before for allegedly being involved in an IPL betting scandal. Raza had fought his own case and had come out clean but his umpiring aspirations had taken a beating as PCB could never back him wholeheartedly post that.
