Pakistan

Profile

Hailing from Peshawar, North West Frontier Province, Akhtar was one of those many cricketers who got a chance to represent Pakistan in the mid 90s. A handy middle order batsman, Sarfraz could only bag four ODIs in his kitty. Stockily built Sarfraz never got going in the handful of opportunities he was presented with and another name from the national set up was kissed by the curse of oblivion.

He continued to ply his trade at the domestic level by playing for Peshawar and National Bank of Pakistan and ended up playing more than 100 first-class games in his 13 year old career in the domestic circuit. The southpaw made his ODI debut against Windies in Oct 1997 and played his last as well against the same opponents in Dec 1998. A middle order boasting the likes of Inzaman, Saleem Malik, Yousuf Youhana and Ijaz Ahmed was difficult to breach into those days and Akhtar found it as difficult as did so many others.
