An injury to Chris Cairns opened up a berth for Mark Bailey in the Wills International Cup quarter-final versus Zimbabwe at Dhaka. Unfortunately Bailey did not get a chance to bat. Even more unfortunate was the fact that he never returned to international cricket. He was a good batsman for Northern Districts, tallying close to 4000 runs in 89 first-class encounters in addition to hitting 2363 runs in 114 List-A matches.
