Profile

A fast bowler who can cause damage coming lower down the order. Ganegama wants to learn from bowlers like Vaas and McGrath. Former Sri Lankan wicket-keeper Russel Hamer first introduced him to cricket when he took him under his private academy. While playing for Susamyawardena College, Ganegama picked up 9 wickets against Ananda College which helped him get a scholarship in Ananda College.

He was also picked for the U-19 squad which played the 2000 World Cup and then toured England. During the tour of England, he picked a ten wicket haul which led to a call-up for the national team. Ganegama made his ODI debut in the Gold Cup in 2000 against Pakistan, he picked up 2 wickets in his very first match. However, a groin injury saw him not play cricket for a while, he made his comeback in 2006 against Australia but was not the same bowler he once was. With more injuries affecting his career, Ganegama plays very little domestic cricket as well.
