England
A left-handed batsman, who excelled in cutting and driving the ball, Alan Butcher was a county stalwart. He captained both Surrey and Glamorgan. His first-class career stats read 22667 runs in 402 matches. His good performances in county cricket helped him earn a Test call-up. Unfortunately, his debut Test in 1979 turned out to be his last Test.
He retired in 1992 and turned to coaching. In a twist of fate, he came out of retirement and played for Surrey at the age of the ripe age of 44. However, his poor fitness meant that the comeback was short-lived.
In 2010, he landed a bigger role, taking over from Walter Chawaguta as Zimbabwe coach. His sons, Mark Butcher and Gary Butcher took to cricket.
