England
Chris Tavare, the ultimate blocker of a cricket ball could occupy the crease for hours and even days. Among his slowest innings was a score of 35 runs in six-and-a-half hours at Madras in the 1981/82 season. He was more fluent for Kent, lifting spinners over the infield. Tavare played 31 Tests and 29 ODIs, scoring 2 centuries overall.
After retirement from all forms of cricket, Tavare turned to teaching.
