Gladstone Small

England

Profile

A right-arm fast medium bowler with a good outswinger, Gladstone Small played 17 Tests and 53 ODIs for England. Born in Barbados in 1961, Small moved to England and gradually established himself in county cricket. Small was given his Test debut against New Zealand in August 1986. Small's finest hour came when he took 5-48 against Australia in the fourth Ashes Test at the MCG the same year. Initially a surprise pick, Small went to play a pivotal role in England's success in that Test. He followed up his 5-fer in the first innings with 2-40 in the second.

The early promise though faded away and he struggled to cement his place in the XI. Small failed to adjust to the tempo of international cricket but continue to excel in first-class cricket until his retirement in 1999.
