Ian Ward

England

Profile

A solid left-handed opening batsman, Ian Ward, enjoyed a second coming to Surrey, five years after his first. He was a late bloomer but grew to become one of the pillars of the Surrey batting department. When he was a part of the England-A squad on the tour of Caribbean, Ward stayed put for over 40 hours to stake claim for an English berth. He did reasonably well against Pakistan but was brought down by the Aussie quicks.Unfortunately, Ward was never to return to the English team after a poor Ashes series in 2001.

However, Ward continued to toil hard in county cricket and shifted to Sussex in 2003. Two years later, he quit all forms of cricket to become a broadcaster and commentator. His sharp insights and analysis make him a key member of the Sky Sports team.
