Profile

A bustling speed merchant, Richard Johnson made his first-class debut in 1992 for Milddlesex. He sharpened his bowling and two years later he became quite a sensation when he claimed all 10 Derbyshire wickets for 45 runs. However, he was called up to the England team only in 2001 after shifting to Somerset.

He had to wait two more years for his Test debut when he was picked to play Zimbabwe in June 2003. Johnson nipped out 6 wickets in the first Test and followed it up with 9 in the next Test against Bangladesh. However, he floundered against an established team in Sri Lanka and he was never to return to the international scene. His ODI career too failed to take off.

Johnson quit all forms of competitive cricket at the end of 2006.
