A fine all-rounder for Kent, Matthew Valentine Fleming came up short on the international stage. A prolific 1997 county season put him in the national reckoning as he was picked in the England ODI team for the Akai-Singer Champions Trophy in Sharjah. Fleming was impressive on debut, taking 4-45 to help
England to a narrow win over India. However, he could not sustain the early promise and fell by the wayside. His international career was limited to just 11 ODIs.

After retirement from all forms of competitive cricket in 2002, Fleming went on to become a cricket writer.By
