A right-handed batsman, Ali Naqvi opened his Test career with a polished hundred on debut against South Africa in 1997. However, he could not sustain the early promise and failed in the next 4 Tests, prompting the selectors to banish him to the domestic level.
Naqvi though flourished at a lesser level, scoring close to 6000 first-class runs in addition to 2423 List-A runs.
