Profile

Tafadzwa Kamungozi began as a seam bowler when he first learned to play cricket as a high school student, but then changed to leg-spin upon joining the Takashinga Cricket Club.

Although lacking domestic experience, Kamungozi was named as a part of the Zimbabwean squad for the 2006 Champions Trophy. He by then had made his international debut against South Africa in ODIs at Potchefstroom and was expensive in his first game, giving away 70 runs in 10 overs as the Proteas amassed over 400 runs. The next month, he toured India for the Champions Trophy and performed marginally well against Sri Lanka and Bangladesh.

However, inconsistent performances and rise of other players, pushed him out of the limelight. Kamungozi got a surprise recall in the team for the 2014 World T20 in Bangladesh. He played only one game against Ireland.

Kamungozi continued to do well in domestic cricket, playing for the Southern Rocks. Those good outings in First-Class cricket got him a ticket for the Bangladesh tour. He played in all five ODIs and picked up eight wickets and made a claim for a permanent spot in the national side. The selectors obliged and added him in the World Cup squad.
