Profile

Born on December 12, 1986, Jahurul Islam is a middle order bat and an occasional keeper. He was drafted into the Test squad following the shock retirement announced by Raqibul Hussain.

The call-up though was well on the cards for a player who had scored a total of 965 runs at a very healthy average of 68.92 in the National cricket League. Jahurul is also a product of the National Academy.

He made his debut against England at Dhaka in 2010 but was dismissed for a duck. He fared better in the second knock though scoring 43. He followed it up with his best score of 46 at Lord's in the return tour. Having been dropped after the England tour in 2010, Jahurul was called back for the Sri Lankan tour in 2013. He was dropped after a string of poor performances in both Tests and ODIs. He played his last Test in March 2013 against Zimbabwe. He is yet to score a fifty even after playing 7 Tests.

Islam played for Duronto Rajshahi in the Bangladesh Premier League. He was bought for $111,000 in the 2013 auctions. The team qualified to the knock-out stages but eventually lost to Khulna Royal Bengal.

Jahurul made his ODI debut in the 2010 Asia Cup against Pakistan but has not had any significant knocks.
