James Ngoche is the brother of three other Kenyan international cricketers, Lameck Onyango, Shem Ngoche and Nehemiah Odhiambo. He was a part of the Kenyan Under-19 and A sides. He made his ODI debut in July 2010 against Ireland and picked up one wicket in that game. In his fourth game against Scotland in the same month, he registered his best ODI bowling figures of 3/18. However, Kenya lost that game by 6 runs.

Ngoche made his T20I debut in February 2012 against Ireland. He bowled economically and took one wicket in that game. However, he has not enjoyed much success in this format of the game.
