Dean Brownlie - New Zealand - Batsman

Brownlie is a New Zealand cricketer who was born in Perth, Western Australia and represented his native state at the U-17 and U-19 level. He has also represented Kent, although it was a second XI. He made his T20 debut for New Zealand against Pakistan in 2010 batting at number 3 and failed to make any impression in the only 2 international matches that he has played till date. However he is a consistent scorer for Canterbury and scored a 86* off just 73 balls in just his second List A match.

Brownlie was handed his first Test cap against Zimbabwe in November 2011 and he started his career with a fine 63. The highlight of his career should be the tour to Australia in December 2011, where he scored 196 runs in 4 innings which also included two fifties. New Zealand went on to draw that series 1-1 and finally won a Test against Australia after 26 years. Though he was getting starts, Brownlie was not able to convert them into a hundred. However, things changed against South Africa in January 2013, where he scored his first Test hundred but could not prevent his side from losing the game. He even scored a fifty in the second Test, since that he failed to reach fifty in 9 innings which led to the selectors discarding him from the squad.

Brownlie will know that he has to score big runs if he has to get back into reckoning, he has been able to score consistently for Canterbury but not the scores that would impress the selectors.
