Profile

Malmeege Amila Aponso is a young Sri Lankan right-handed batsman and slow left-arm orthodox bowler who used to be a part of the Sri Lanka Under-19 squad. He made his first-class debut in 2013 for the Lankan Cricket Club against Colts Cricket Club.

The left-arm spinner, while playing for Ragama cricket club, impressed one and all by claiming 47 wickets in the 2016 domestic season with an average of 20.97. His consistent and impressive performances helped him earn a spot in the national side for ODIs against Australia in 2016. Eventually the Colombo-born made his debut in the first ODI and has been a part of all 5 games. Aponso, unlike many debutants, didn't show any nerves, on his debut and went onto a weave a tight spell while his colleagues struggled for rhythm. Registered figures of 1/27 in his 10 overs and interestingly he was the only bowler who had an economy rate under 3 in that game. \"He seems a clever customer and will get better with time,\" opined Russel Arnold on air during the series which was thoroughly dominated by Australia.

Maiden international wicket: Aaron Finch
