Stuart Poynter - Ireland - WK-Batsman

Stuart Poynter

Stuart Poynter

Ireland

Profile

Born in Hammersmith, London, Stuart Poynter plies his trade in Ireland. A wicket-keeper batsman, who came through the rigours of Under-17 and Under-19 age groups. The younger brother of Irish all-rounder Andrew Poynter, Stuart started his career with Middlesex before moving to Warwickshire and finally signing with Durham in 2014.

Being a keeper, Stuart idolizes former England wicket-keeper, Jack Russell. However, this specialization of his has made it difficult for him to find a regular place in the Ireland side, with Niall O'Brien and Gary Wilson preferred over him. In September 2014, Stuart made his debut in a One-Day International (ODI) game against Scotland in Dublin and nine months later played his first Twenty20 International (T20I) versus the same side.

Stuart has failed to impress in the limited number of opportunities. But the 25-year-old has age on his side and will look to turn things around to find a regular spot in the national side.
