Kruger van Wyk

Kruger van Wyk

New Zealand

Profile

He may stand just below 4 feet but Kruger van Wyk's spirit and guts more than makes up for the stunted height. Kruger van Wyk was born in South Africa, he learnt his cricket at Northerns before moving to Canterbury. With Mark Boucher shining in the wicket-keeper batsman role for over a decade, Kruger van Wyk took up the offer of his coach, Dave Nosworthy to migrate to New Zealand in search of more opportunities.

He led the the Canterbury Wizards to the first-class State Championship title in only his maiden stint as captain. He captained the Wizards until 2010, when he signed for the Central Stags. His efforts at the domestic level were rewarded when he was called up to the New Zealand squad for the solitary Test against Zimbabwe in January 2012. However, he had to wait a few more weeks for his debut.

It finally came to pass against the visiting South Africans in March 2012. Van Wyk was given a fair run in 2012 but he struggled to cement his place in the XI. Now with BJ Watling entering the scene, Kruger van Wyk's task has only gotten stiffer.
