Sami Aslam - Pakistan - Batsman

A water-tight technique backed by an ability to grind the opposition down makes Sami Aslam a wonderful prospect for Pakistan. As an opener, Sami has shown enough mettle to wear out the bowling attacks for long periods of time.

Sami Aslam has come up from the under-19 ranks. He was a part of Pakistan under-19 team in both 2012 and 2014 World Cups. In fact he was the captain of the 2014 team which lost in the finals. After his good showing in age group cricket, Sami Aslam was called into the ODI after a disastrous 2015 World Cup for the senior team. They were 0-2 behind in the three match ODI series against Bangladesh and Sami made his debut in the last ODI in April 2015. A strokeful 45 followed suit and the decision to include him in the 11 was vindicated despite Pakistan losing the game.

He made his Test debut on the same tour against the Bangladeshis and aggregated only 47 runs in three innings. He was dropped post that and made his comeback in England after missing the first two Tests. Scores of 82 and 70 at Edgbaston impressed all and sundry as Pakistan managed to draw the series 2-2 in England. He became the second Pakistan player to score 50+ in both innings of his 1st Test in Eng after Saeed Anwar. Aslam also made it to the tours of New Zealand and Australia but only one meaningful score of 91 at Hamilton was just about it. The selection committee again brought the chopper down on him and he was ignored for the tour to the Windies in early 2017. But with age on his side, Sami would want to give it another good shot.
