Profile

An aggressive right-handed batsman and a reliable wicketkeeper, Jimmy Peirson started his ascent to the top by leading Queensland side in the Australian U-19 Championship title, scoring 311 runs at a remarkable average of 58.

As the Queensland bulls already had a seasoned keeper in Chris Hartley, Peirson's rise through the ranks was rather slow and it was difficult for him to make it into the side. However, due to loss of form and fitness troubles, Hartley lost favour with the selectors and Peirson finally made the cut for the Matador BBQs One-Day Cup in 2016. With Hartley set to retire, Peirson, who is still relatively young at 25, has enough scope to establish himself in Shield cricket and List A cricket.

Although bagging a Baggy Green is still a far cry, the Aussies don't have an established Test keeper yet, as they have been picking from a pool of wicketkeepers including Tim Paine, Mathew Wade and Peter Neville over the last couple of years. One strong Shield season can see him making a compelling case for himself and knocking on the doors of the Australian Team.

He has been a top-order biffer for the Brisbane Heat for the past four years, and has done relatively well to be retained by the franchise. He is known to be aggressive with the bat striking at 133 runs per hundred balls in T20s. He has provided the Heat with several flying starts during the powerplay overs and has exhibited an ideal blend of athleticism and reliability behind the stumps. It would certainly do the Heat a lot of good if McCullum and Peirson get going together at the top of the order. Brisbane Heat will be expecting big things from him in the upcoming edition of the Big Bash league 2017/18.

Interesting Facts:

He is fond of fishing and other outdoor activities.
He is pursuing a career in Business Management alongside his cricket career.
