Profile

Anton Devcich, a left-handed batsman occasionally bowling left-arm orthodox spin, started off as a number 10 batsman eventually moving to the number three position. Devcich began his cricketing career representing New Zealand in the U19 World Cup of 2004. He made his first-class debut a year later starting off as a specialist bowler. He did not pick up any wickets, instead impressed everyone by scoring an unbeaten 94 at number 9. He played three more matches in his debut season but was not able to recreate the magic of his first game.

In the following season, Devcich made his List A and T20 debuts. There were no exceptional performances after that and he failed to secure a place in the national side. After years of being sidelined, a good series against India A and Sri Lanka A in 2013 prompted the selectors to include him in the 15-member squad for the Bangladesh tour.

Devcich played some small but significant knocks in the ODI series and celebrated his T20I debut by hitting his maiden fifty that helped New Zealand post a winning total. He was named in New Zealand's 15-member squad for the 2014 World T20 in Bangladesh.
