Profile

A left arm orthodox spinner by trade, Chaturanga de Silva earned his debut in the 2014 Asia Cup, replacing the injured Rangana Herath. Whilst Chaturanga is no Herath, he made his presence felt, albeit briefly, blocking the opposition's escape routes in the middle over passages. He broke into the international fold on the back of consistent returns against the English Lions.

He is also a spunky batsman in the lower middle order as evidenced by his 4 tons and 17 fifties in domestic cricket. Chaturanga, the batsman, grabbed eyeballs during his breezy little 44 against Bangladesh in Dhaka. With Herath recuperating from injury, Chaturanga was withdrawn from the squad for the T20 Cup, which quickly followed the heels of the Asia Cup.
