Profile

Born in December 1993, Nick Gubbins, who plies his trade for Middlesex, is a left-handed top-order batsman. Having made his first-class debut back in 2013, Gubbins has enjoyed a decent run with Middlesex and has since gone on to receive call-ups for the England Lions squad.

Gubbins' was the star performer behind Middlesex's successful title winning run in 2016, making over 1000 runs at an average that exceeded 60. It was his watershed season, compiling as many as four hundreds, including a career-best 201 against Lancashire. This red-hot form made him a contender for the winter tours of Bangladesh and India, but with plenty of left-handed batting options already present, Gubbins had to be satisfied with a Lions call-up.

In 2017, his form dipped away drastically as did for Middlesex and that meant his England hopes lay in cold storage. A left-hander himself, Gubbins hails from the same college as former England captain, Andrew Strauss - Radley College - and as such comparisons with the former England captain have been inevitable.
