Hamish Gardiner

Scotland

Profile

Although born in Brisbane, Australia, Hamish Gardiner qualified to play for Scotland through his Scottish mother. He moved to Scotland in 2013 after finishing his University degree in Australia. He made his ODI debut against his home country in September 2013. Prior to his international debut, Gardiner had lived in Scotland when he was young and was briefly a part of the Scotland Under-13 side.

Gardiner did not have a memorable debut, but he persisted and made a name for himself as a decent opening batsman. He had a better 2014, hitting 82 against a strong New Zealand 'A' attack and soon after, smashed 89 in a win over Ireland. His performances kept on improving and during the World Cup acclimatisation tour, he hit a useful 54 against New Zealand XI, thus earning high praise. He subsequently made it to Scotland's 15-man squad for the upcoming World Cup.
