So, that's it from our side. A clinical show from Afghanistan has helped them to go 1-0 up in the 3-match ODI series. That augurs well for them. Bangladesh were flat today and would be hungry to bounce back in style! We hope you enjoyed our coverage. Do join us for the 2nd ODI on Saturday. Till then, goodbye and cheers!
Hashmatullah Shahidi | Afghanistan captain: I think our bowlers did very good, bowled according to the plans. Especially the catch Nabi took, it changed the game for us. The way Gurbaz and Ibrahim started it was good. They played according to the situation and gave us a good start in the first 10 overs. (On Farooqi's injury update) He is okay, it was just a cramp. He will recover.
Fazalhaq Farooqi | Player of the Match: I am thankful to God that I helped my side win the game. I wanted to bowl in right areas and I achieved that.
Tamim Iqbal | Bangladesh captain: I thought weather and other things, we don't need to blame such things, it's a part and parcel of the game. We had a good start but we lost back-to-back wickets. It was a loose shot from me. When you put on 160-odd, it is not enough on any day, the wicket was a bit tricky and if we had added 50 more runs, it would have been good. (On Towhid Hridoy) I think it is his 6th-7th game and he looks impressive every time he plays.
22:36 Local Time, 16:36 GMT, 22:06 IST: The official word is out. The rain has had its final say and Afghanistan win by 17 runs based on DLS method. Clinical display all-round from the Afghans! A collective disciplined bowling performance from their bowlers helped them to restrict Bangladesh to a below-par total. Farooqi, Rashid, and Mujeeb stole the limelight with the ball as they were frugal as well as penetrative. Hridoy played a lone hand and scored a fifty which gave his side something to play with. A couple of rain interruptions during the 1st innings meant that the game was reduced to 43 overs per side. The ball nipped around under lights and the Afghani openers, Zadran and Gurbaz, were circumspect in their approach. They saw off the new-ball threat but Shakib outfoxed the latter to give his side a glimmer of hope. Rahmat perished to a loose shot off Taskin's bowling but Shahidi joined hands with Zadran and kept the Bangladeshi bowlers at bay. And when the third bout of rain swept Chattogram, Afghanistan were 17 runs ahead on DLS. The rain stopped for a while sparking a hope of a resumption but a couple of more spells of rains after that drew curtains on the game. Stick around for the presentations...
22:28 Local Time, 16:28 GMT, 21:58 IST: The rain has completely stopped now and the main cover is being taken off by the groundsmen. And as I type. it looks like the drizzle has returned and the blue cover is being brought back on. And now, more covers are coming in. It has started raining heavily once again. Just to remind you all, if no more play is possible, Afghanistan will win based on DLS method.
22:21 Local Time, 16:21 GMT, 21:51 IST: Oh no! Looks like it has started drizzling and the main cover is back on. Unfortunate but it has been that kind of an evening!
22:13 Local Time, 16:13 GMT, 21:43 IST: The rain has stopped and the covers are being slowly peeled off.
21:52 Local Time, 15:52 GMT, 21:22 IST: It's raining cats and dogs at the moment in Chattogram. Chances of a resumption anytime soon looks bleak.
21:33 Local Time, 15:33 GMT, 21:03 IST: Suddenly a shower again and the covers are coming on. Since the 20 overs are done, we will have a result and Afghanistan are well ahead on DLS. Afghanistan need to be 66/2 according to DLS at this stage and they are 17 runs ahead at present.
