A redemption for Ireland, and a few things to sew up for Afghanistan today, but a welcome change in fortunes today, for the Irish, and for the spectators. That's it, then, from us, as I, Rishi Roy, bid you goodbye, on behalf of Vineet Anantharaman and Varun Dixit. Ciao!
Andrew Balbirnie, Man of the Match: There was a lot of pressure. We hadn't won against these guys. Just for a morale boost, with two games to go, is fantastic for the side. It's been a long tour. A few scary moments, but you have to take risks. They have world-class bowlers. We haven't had practice in the last few days because of the rain, and it has been a mental battle watching videos of those bowlers. You dream of playing such knocks. To play a special knock is very rewarding for me, and we are a very close team for the moment. Happy with the win today, and hoping to win in the next ODI as well. Not a perfect performance, there are a few things to work on, but we are 1-1 with two to go, so that's great for us.
William Porterfield, Ireland captain: Very happy, didn't strike it too well myself, can't speak high enough for the bowlers, and I think Balbirnie and Dockrell picked it up really well later in the chase. It's been a tightly contested series over the years, so we would love to take the lead in a couple of days time in the 4th ODI. We didn't just talk this time, but executed it out in the middle, so that was good to see.
Asghar Afghan, Afghanistan captain: When you lose the game you're disappointed, it is natural. Our top-order played some poor shots, but Najib and I recovered well. We dropped a lot of catches, but credit to Balbirnie, he played really well. Hopefully we can make a comeback later in the series.
20:17 Local Time: A fantastic turnaround for Ireland, and I tip my hat to Balbirnie. A fantastic knock in a tricky chase today - feat. Mr. Dockrell. Stirling, Porterfield and Simi departed early, and KoB didn't last too long either, but Dockrell's 143-run partnership with Balbirnie really set the tone for the innings, and honestly, the dropped catches by the Afghans did help. Not to mention the missed stumping. At the end, McBrine just had to stay at the other end to allow Balbirnie to finish things off, and he was pumped after hitting the winning runs. A fantastic innings by him comes to an end, and Ireland deserved the win today - keeping the series alive in Dehradun and reviving their campaign. 1-1 it is. Presentations coming up in a bit.
