PS: The next Test match is probably in July. There's England-Ireland and Windies-India series scheduled. Whoever starts first, it's still a long way away. You know the drill for the next few months then, eh...

Asghar Afghan collects the trophy from the chairman of Afghanistan Cricket Board. His team-mates are quick to join in and they raise their index finger whilst posing for the cameras. Mohammad Shahzad tries to do a Baahubali with the trophy. Scenes! Make no mistake, Ireland had their moments and were absolutely brilliant in patches. Unfortunately, the longer format demands consistency and that's something that went missing from the Irish bowlers. Their wait for a maiden win in Test cricket continues, but one would feel it's just round the corner. Kudos to both sides for all the entertainment. That's that from Dehradun then. The IPL fever has begun and there's plenty of amazing content you might want to munch on. Keep following this space for all the latest in cricket. Until next time, this is Raju Peethala bidding goodbye on behalf of Pradeep Krishnamurthy, Abhinand Raghavendran and our scorer Sulthan. Cheers!!

Asghar Afghan, Afghanistan skipper: Happy that we won. Really happy for my team, people and the cricket board. Before we used to play two-day, three-day cricket and now we are playing the longer form and getting to play Test cricket. So, it's a special feeling. I want to congratulate all the lads in the team, they have been absolutely brilliant. We have got a few games before the World Cup and we want to make every opportunity count.

Rahmat Shah, Man of the Match for his twin fifties: I would like to congratulate the country for this historic win. The wicket in the ODIs was more suited to spin and this wicket was more suitable for batting and glad to have scored some runs for my team. I stayed at the wicket and we played session by session. Want to give credit to the bowlers, they bowled really well.

William Porterfield, Ireland skipper: It was always gonna be tough ask today. First innings didn't go to plan for us. When you win the toss and bat first you have to capitalize on that, if we batted anywhere close to how we batted in the second innings, it could have been different. Take nothing away from Afghanistan - they are the deserved winners and they played really well. Still our second game and quite a few players made their debut and I'm sure some of them want to kick-on and contribute more. It's been a long tour, but the lads have been very good. You are never tired to play Test cricket, it's always a special feeling.

12:04 Local Time, 06:34 GMT, 12:04 IST: Skipper Asghar Afghan implores his colleagues to form a huddle and up go the celebrations; Rashid Khan is absolutely pumped as he screams at the cameras. A thoroughly deserved win for the hosts. They needed 118 runs to complete the formalities today morning and apart from the last-minute-madness Afghanistan proved why they belong to the highest level with a mixed display of defence, defiance and dashing style of cricket. Their bowlers set up the game in the first innings and Rahmat Shah stood out among others to vindicate his credentials as Afghanistan's best batsman in international cricket. He scored twin fifties in the game and fell tantalizingly short of his maiden hundred in the first innings. Rashid Khan started this Test match with an injured finger, but he delivered the killer blow with a fifer in the second innings to reclaim his side's domination in the game. Yamin Ahmadzai has been exceptional too. It's been a Test match full of stories...

AKSHAT VERMA: History re-written by Afghanistan, this is just a beginning, more yet to come

Mitesh Bhatt: This innings from Janat and Rahmat certainly showed how Afghanistan has adopted themselves in Test cricket. Lots of maturity, no false shots, perfect text book batting style .

Sony Roy: India took 20 yrs, BAN took 5 yrs, NZ took 25 yrs to achieve their FIRST test win.. But AFG taste their first Test success only in their 2nd test.(1 yr 7 months since they got test status). HISTORIC DAY FOR THE NATION.

James Cameron to Shahidi, FOUR, pulled away to the deep square fence and there's a huge roar from both the batsmen as they complete Afghanistan's maiden win in Test match cricket. Historic moment for their players as they congratulate each other in the dressing room. Now, the mandatory handshakes between both teams

Hashmatullah Shahidi, left handed bat, comes to the crease

James Cameron to Nabi, out Nabi Run Out!! 1 run completed. Nabi comes and Nabi goes. He paddles the sweep to the right of short fine and always wanted the second, his partner was slight hesitant and responded late. There was no hesitation about the throw from Murtagh though, he gets to the ball quickly and fires it flat at the striker's end. Nabi's way short. Nabi run out (Murtagh/Stuart Poynter) 1(1)

James Cameron to Nabi, THATS OUT!! Run Out!!

Mohammad Nabi, right handed bat, comes to the crease

James Cameron to Rahmat, out Stumped!! Nothing but overexcitement! Rahmat wanted to finish with a glory shot and therefore, went for the slog after advancing down the pitch, maybe revealed his cards way too early? James Cameron spotted the shimmy and dragged his length back while keeping it far from his reach. Rahmat Shah was nowhere near and the rush of blood cost him his wicket. Easy stumping for Stuart Poynter. Rahmat st Stuart Poynter b James Cameron 76(122) [4s-13]

James Cameron to Rahmat, THATS OUT!! Stumped!!

James Cameron to Rahmat, no run, gets forward and defends the quicker delivery back to the bowler

James Cameron to Rahmat, FOUR, flat and short outside off, Rahmat crunches it off the back foot and places it past the diving left hand of short cover. Commendable effort from sweeper cover in the deep but he fails to haul the ball back despite a dive

Andy Balbirnie to Ihsanullah, FOUR, another late cut and another boundary! Too short on middle and off, Janat uses the crease to camp back and unleashes those whippy wrists to generate the power through the off-side behind point
