Ireland have picked up a tough win. They did well on the back of Tector's fifty to get to 149. And then managed to defend it well on the back of some excellent seam and spin bowling. But the Afghan unit will bounce back, one can be certain about it. Another thing that is certain is we will be back as well. Bye bye for now.
Paul Stirling: We are delighted with the win. They are a massive team. Their bowling attack is superb. We would look to win this series. People want to watch good cricket. The passion boils over sometimes. We have had some great cricketing history in the last decade or so. I think we will have to perform our best to win games. We want to do well as a team.
Rashid Khan: The early wickets didn't help. We tried to recover but couldn't do it. But the series is still alive.
Benjamin White, Player of the Match: Nice to contribute to the team's performance. Plenty of time spent in the county. Nice to be back with the boys. Have to respect the umpire's decision and get on with it. Nice to pick up a few wickets.
23:37 Local Time, 19:37 GMT, 01:07 IST: Ireland would be elated. This has been a superb performance from the Irish unit. Whatta defence! Never thought 150 would be a winning total. But the Irish bowlers were switched on from ball one and never allowed much freedom to the batters of Afghanistan. The Irish unit would be super happy to take a 1-0 lead. Every bowler contributed. The leggie - White - picked up a four-fer and Little picked up a three-fer to rattle the hosts. The bowling was water-tight and they hardly gave anything away. Ishaq and Nabi but was a case of too little as the total needed one fine individual effort on a wicket which was assisting the slower bowlers for sure. Ireland would take this win with open arms...
McCarthy to Naveen-ul-Haq, out Caught by Delany!! Taken at deep cover. That's it. Ireland win this and take a 1-0 lead. Was a fuller ball, outside off, Naveen-ul-Haq wanted to heave it and ended up slicing it to the man at deep cover. Easy take for the fielder and McCarthy has wrapped it inside edge onto the pads with his second wicket of the evening. Naveen-ul-Haq c Delany b McCarthy 13(15) [4s-1 6s-1]
