The medals have been presented and India's flag goes up amidst the chorus of the national anthem. A successful cricket competition comes to an end in the 2022 Hangzhou Asian Games and the sport will now look to take the next step forward and become an Olympic sport come 2028. It's time for photos and there are a lot of smiling faces from all three medal winning teams. That ends our coverage of cricket in this Asian Games. The World Cup has started and we've a lot of content for you to gloss over. Two matches going on right now and you can switch tabs to catch all the action. For now, cheers and bye..
17:40 Local Time, 09:40 GMT, 15:10 IST: The players have walked out for the medal ceremony. Bangladesh, Afghanistan and India - the three men medalists. It will be India's eastern neighbours who'll start with the Bronze medals being handed out first. It's still raining as umbrellas accompany the officials and dignitaries. Right, Bangladesh -> Bronze, Afghanistan -> Silver and India -> Gold.
17:10 Local Time, 09:10 GMT, 14:40 IST: The celebrations continue and there is a party atmosphere in the stands as the podium gets readied for the medals ceremony. The Indian players join in the fun even as some loud Bollywood music ring through in the background. Has been a superb day so far with India clinching 5 gold medals already. They entered cricket as firm favourites to grab both gold medals and they weren't really tested, except for a brief while when the Nepal men team threatened to turn the tables. Cricket is making an effort for more recognition and a spot in the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics and this tournament must've stood the sport in good stead.
17:02 Local Time, 09:02 GMT, 14:32 IST: Unfortunately, the match has been called off and India win the gold medal. A bit of anti-climax really, they'd have wanted to win the game on the field, but you can't blame the elements. To be frank, they were the best team right through the competition and they did deserve to emerge victorious. Afghanistan had their moments and they'd feel that they really had a chance to win today, especially with their spin duo having looked so good. So, 27th gold for India in this games and cricket has chipped in its bit, securing both gold medals. A double for Bangladesh as well with them winning both bronze medals. Afghanistan and Sri Lanka walk away with a silver medal each. The Indian flag is out as the players proudly flaunt it across the stadium and in front of their adoring supporters.
16:50 Local Time, 08:50 GMT, 14:20 IST: It's still raining in Hangzhou. Remember, if we can't continue the match, India will be awarded the gold medal on account of being the higher seeds. The cut-off time for a 5-over chase is 5:18 pm. In case India do have a 5-over chase, the target will be around 40 runs
16:33 Local Time, 08:33 GMT, 14:03 IST: No positive update. It's still raining in Hangzhou. It's safe to say that Afghanistan won't come out to bat again.
16:10 Local Time, 08:10 GMT, 13:40 IST: The covers are firmly in place as it's still raining.
15:51 Local Time, 07:51 GMT, 13:21 IST: Gaikwad has a word with the umpire. The two umpires have a chat. Change of ball? The fourth umpire is out in the middle with a box of balls. Oh, now the covers come on! Play stopped due to rain. It has been drizzling since the 15th over. The start of play was delayed by 20 minutes, so we might start to lose overs if rain doesn't stop quickly.
