That is it from the newest venue in India to taste the spice of T20 cricket. It did not go in favour of the hosts. But the attendance of almost 39,000 people ensured the decibel levels were right up there and the cricketing carnival was celebrated with utmost pomp. The jamboree now moves to Hyderabad with the series deadlocked at 1-1. Home ground for the likes of Warner, Henriques, Bhuvi and Dhawan. That would be fun. Until then, Kumar Abhisekh Das says Bonne nuit on behalf of MS Ramakrishnan, Pratyush Sinha, Sriram, Akshay Maanay and Venky.
Stats wrap, courtesy Deepu Narayanan:
- This is the first time Australia have beaten India in India in five T20Is.
- Also, ends the runs of seven successive wins for India against Australia in T20Is.
- Australia's win with 27 balls to spare is the most by any team against India in India. PRE: 17 balls by SA, Cuttack, 2015.
Jason Behrendorff - Player of the Match: "It's not too often I get in front of the cameras, so I need to work on that (chuckles). Nice to get one over (in the last game) but the experience was good nonetheless. I have been working hard to play for Australia and am loving every minute of it. The whole Indian team is a class team and feels nice to take a few wickets and get ourselves to a great start. Can't wait to do it again at Hyderabad."
David Warner: "It feels great. As I said, bowl well and start well. Jason has got the height and bounce, he comes from Perth and has the right attitude, which is key. Zampa was fantastic as well. Sending Henriques early was something I spoke about. He's been effective with Sunrisers as well, and he came and showed his experience. In the beginning, the pitch was softish, quite like an English wicket. But if you got through the new ball, you could score. Hopefully the crowd gets behind us in Hyderabad."
Virat Kohli: "Not the performance we wished for. Australia were much better on the day. We were not good enough with the bat. After the dew set in, it was very difficult to control the game. The effort is to do that (fight) as a team. But we speak about times when the situations are not in our favour and that is when we have to put 120% on the field. It is the attitude that matters the most. As a batsman you have two skills, one with the bat and the other on the field. (Talking about Behrendorff) Indeed, I thought the ball to Rohit was very good. His line and length was very tight. He made us think. Credit to him for hitting the right areas. He definitely had a top class day today."
Harsha Bhogle: Top decision to move Henriques to no 3. Warner has done it before at Sunrisers.
Travis Head: "I haven't been doing that (playing with a straight bat) throughout the tour and it's nice to come out and do that. I worked hard on that aspect in the last couple of days. We tried to put the pressure back on the bowlers by being positive. Jason bowled unbelievably well. The series is up for grabs now and we are looking forward to winning the series in Hyderabad."
Moises Henriques: "I think the bowlers bowled well. Chasing a small target, Travis came in and hit a couple of boundaries, which took off a lot of pressure. It was important to anchor the innings and make sure we didn't have a collapse. I think, to be honest, the wicket suited the seam bowlers little bit more tonight than the last game, where it kept low and the bowlers could bowl into the wicket. Today there wasn't as much spin. I was gonna bat three if we lost an early wicket in the first six. Last game, the openers did well, so I slid down a little bit."
A target of 119 was never going to threaten the Aussies. But the early departure of Warner and Finch meant there were a few jitters. A nick off the bat from Henriques, promoted to number 3, was not spotted and that ended up being India's only chance to even think of making a match out of it. Henriques and Head took on the Indian spinners and how! They clobbered anything loose and finished the formalities with ample time to spare. Australia thus break the 7 match winning streak of the Indians as well. Hang on a bit for the captains comments and yes we need to hear from Behrendorff. It has to be him for the MOM. Isn't it?
So, 1-1 it is now. Ranchi was rain-marred and India got their noses ahead. Here at Guwahati, Australia never let India ask any questions after winning the toss and electing to bowl first. Behrendorff became another unknown quantity to trouble the hosts. He picked up 4 in his 4-over spell including Virat Kohli for a duck, first time for him in T20Is. Jadhav and MSD tried to grind but Zampa had the better of both of them with a wrong 'un and leggie respectively. Pandya batted sensibly with Kuldeep for a while and India limped to 118.
Chahal to Henriques, FOUR, spanked back and Australia win by 8 wickets with 27 balls to spare. A canter to say the least! That was a flighted ball, yet again, and the batsman bazoooka-ed back a shot to which Chahal did a left alone. Saved his fingers and the demolition was complete
Harsha Bhogle: So not a close game after all.....
Chahal to Henriques, 2 runs, looks to go inside out, in the end splices the ball away into the covers for a brace. The scores are level. Henriques on strike. Has the rights to finish it off and has earned it as well
Chahal to Head, 1 run, that kind of a day for the spinners. The slog sweep, the staple shot for Head gets a top-edge and lands well short of the man coming in from deep backward square leg
Chahal to Head, wide, flighted, too wide though, wided

Kuldeep Yadav to Henriques, 2 runs, 100 runs for these two! The heavy wood makes contact on another flighted ball to send it to deep square leg on the slog sweep. Only a shot away now..
Kuldeep Yadav to Head, 1 run, floated well outside off and slog swept down the ground to find long-on on the bounce for a single. They are going for everything
98* - Highest 3rd wicket stand by any team against India in T20Is. Previous best: 97 by Charles & Simmons, Mumbai(WS), 2016
Kuldeep Yadav to Henriques, 1 run, another heavy drive down the ground to long-off. He is nailing them hard
