This is a remarkable performance from Australia after losing the toss. The way they've dominated Sri Lanka on a turning track says a lot about their adaptability and all-round strength. They've gone 1-0 up in the series, with one more to play at the same venue in around a week's time. That's all we have for now. Until next time, it's goodbye!
Cummins, Australia captain: Turned out this morning, didn't think it was going to happen that fast. We were really clear in our planning. Bravery and proactiveness shown, especially by our batters. Someone like Green has grown up at the WACA, it's so different. Really happy for him. He was fantastic. He was the difference.
Karunaratne, SL captain: Disappointed. Winning the toss and getting out for 212 is disappointing. There was something for the bowlers. Australia batted very well. Have to put our hands up as a batting unit. We have plenty of experienced players. Knew how it's going to turn. Decision we took was horrible. We played with this (spin options) for last couple of years. They're good enough to do the job here. Bowled well in patches. Ramesh bowled well. Others couldn't support him. When we batted second, not easy to bat against Lyon. Was turning heavily. Approach was good, sometimes we took bad decision.
Green, Player of the Match: When you come to the subcontinent, there are a few unknowns. But we've got experienced guys in the changeroom. A lot of guys said to be proactive. You're going to get out as some point, might as well play some shots.
12:12 Local Time, 06:42 GMT, 12:12 IST: Australia were still in their first innings when the day began, and they've somehow galloped to victory even before the lunch break! What a crazy morning! Lyon, Swepson and Head ripped through the Sri Lanka batting to bundle them out for 113, leaving Australia with a target of just five runs. It was a raging turner alright, and Sri Lanka tried hitting their way out of trouble. It didn't work for them. The first-innings deficit of 109 was massive as well, and that's where a lot of credit goes to Usman Khawaja and Cameron Green for the way they tackled the Lankan spinners to set the game up so beautifully. And there was no hiding from how the Lankan spinners were outbowled by their Australian counterparts either. Stay tuned for the presentations.
Ramesh Mendis to Warner, SIX, Warner dances down and lofts it over the long-on boundary, finishing it off with a six! It's a comprehensive win for Australia in the first Test
Ramesh Mendis to Warner, FOUR, tossed up outside off, Warner nails the reverse-hit over backward point. Scores level
Ramesh Mendis to Warner, no run, now he goes for a slog-sweep but misses. It spits off a length and hits him on his left shoulder
Ramesh Mendis to Warner, no run, looks to cut but chops it off a thick bottom-edge into the off-side
Warner and Khawaja are at the crease. Warner is on strike. Ramesh Mendis will open the attack
11:59 Local Time, 06:29 GMT, 11:59 IST: Holy hell! Sri Lanka have been bowled out in 22.5 overs inside two hours. Can you believe that? This after four boundaries came off Starc's opening over and the opening stand was 37. But once that was broken, wickets fell like nine pins. Head who was tossed the ball to rest Swepson for a while, picked four and denied Lyon the chance to claim a well-deserved 10-fer in the match. Sri Lanka came out with an intent to play shots - which was not a bad way to go on a spitting turner, but did not execute them well. But still a stunning collapse to see them lose 10 wickets inside a session. Thanks to Asitha Fernando, they make Australia bat again. Just the 5 needed to go 1-0 up. Back for the token chase in 5 minutes...
Head to Embuldeniya, out Lbw!! Australia have wrapped it up inside a session. Full and speared in at the legs, Embuldeniya flicks and misses, again not given surprisingly by umpire Kumar Dharmasena. No bat and it's crashing into leg-stump. The review gets Head his fourth and best figures in his first-class career. Embuldeniya lbw b Head 0(6)
Head to Embuldeniya, THATS OUT!! Lbw!!
DRS: Australia take a review for LBW after Dharmasena does not give it. Gone.
Head to Embuldeniya, no run, full on the stumps, defended with bat in front of the pad
Head to Asitha Fernando, 1 run, tossed up outside off, smeared to long-on
Head to Asitha Fernando, FOUR, Australia will to have bat again. Tossed up outside off, smashed straight back over the bowler's head
Asitha Fernando, right handed bat, comes to the crease
Head to Vandersay, out Bowled!! Similar dismissal to Chandimal. That ripping offbreak tossed up outside off, turns in past the inside-edge of Vandersay who pushes and clips the leg-stump bail. Deflects off it to hit Warner at legslip on the crotch. The Aussies are all smiles even as Warner is down in pain. Third for Head. Sri Lanka still trail by one. Vandersay b Head 8(8) [4s-1]
Head to Vandersay, THATS OUT!! Bowled!!
