England take the win, Australia will not be too disappointed, although they certainly looked favourites at one stage. Add Starc, Hazlewood, Cummins and Zampa to this batting order, you wouldn't bet against them retaining the T20 World Cup on home turf. But that's still quite far away, both teams will look to fine-tune their preparations in the next 2 games at the Manuka Oval in Canberra. New venue, new pitch - can the hosts bounce back? The India-South Africa ODI is on right now, switch tabs and enjoy all the action. For now, cheers and bye..
Alex Hales | Player of the Match - Really proud, it was a good all-round performance, the way we batted and then defended was outstanding. We thought at one point when Warner and Stoinis were going, we had slipped away our chance of winning, but great to come back. Grateful for the chance at the top of the order - the experience of playing for the Sydney Thunder in the Big Bash has helped me while playing on these surfaces.
Jos Buttler | Winning captain - It was a great game of cricket and I was delighted to go over the line. They played outstandingly and put us under pressure (on Australia), it was important for us to take wickets, which is what Wood and Curran did. I was looking at the ball and didn't notice what exactly happened (on the possible obstruction by Wade). You are always unsure about it (on his return after a long layoff), it was nice to get a boundary early on and that settled things a bit. Alex (Hales) has a fantastic record in Australia (playing in the BBL), Salt did well in his chances, but we felt that Alex was the man at the top in Australia and for the upcoming World Cup.
Aaron Finch | Losing captain - Nathan Ellis was outstanding on a good batting surface. He bowled 2 really good overs in the PP, one in the middle when they were going strong and one at the death. A bit disappointing to lose, at one stage, we looked like we would win, but things didn't go our way. He's been a fantastic player, every time he gets an opportunity, he delivers for us at the big stage (on Ellis). Against great players (on bowling to Buttler), sometimes it's difficult, we can try and execute, but they're great players for a reason. I will go back to the top next game, that was always the plan. The games against the West Indies and this game was an experiment, but I'll go back (to the top of the order) in preparation for the upcoming World Cup.
19:59 Local Time, 11:59 GMT, 17:29 IST: Perth welcomes back cricket for the first time since March 2020 with a run fest at the Optus Stadium. England emerging victorious by 8 runs, but they didn't have everything their way. The hosts had rested their pace battery, the reserves failed to settle against the guile of Buttler and Hales, getting smacked 132 for the first wicket, coming off just 68 balls. The England captain, playing for the first time since his injury during the Hundred, set the tone and his partner followed. The bowling looked hapless, but the hosts did show signs of a comeback once the opening pair was separated. Still, 208 was a big score on this ground. Australia came out firing with Warner looking in exceptional nick, Green fell early, but Marsh, Finch and Stoinis made useful contributions. At one stage, the hosts were ahead of the rate, but Wood struck thrice to derail the innings. Australia never recovered from those blows despite Wade's punchy little cameo, falling short in the final over. Still, the hosts will take home the positives with their first-choice bowlers set to return in Canberra.

Sam Curran to Swepson, 2 runs, England win by 8 runs, slower ball at the stumps, Swepson backs away and heaves, high and down towards long-on, the ball bounces well in front of the fielder in the deep and they settle for a couple
Mitchell Swepson, right handed bat, comes to the crease
Sam Curran to Nathan Ellis, out Bowled!! No doubt about this one though - Curran kept it full and straight, was another slower ball, Ellis backed away on the swing and missed - the ball hits the top of the stumps and the zing bails are sent flying. Nathan Ellis b Sam Curran 0(2)
Sam Curran to Nathan Ellis, THATS OUT!! Bowled!!
Sam Curran to K Richardson, leg byes, 1 run, the slower short balls are doing the trick for Curran - bowled into the surface once again, Richardson swung across the line and it lobbed to Wood at short third man. But was it off the glove? England certainly think so and they have reviewed, it has come off the shoulder, but was there bat before that, nothing on HotSpot, RTS isn't available and this should go in favour of the batter. The third umpire has a few more checks on the HotSpot and asks the on-field umpire to stay with his NOT OUT call, they've sneaked in a leg-bye as well
Kane Richardson, right handed bat, comes to the crease
Sam Curran to Wade, out Caught by Stokes!! That could be the game for England - slower short ball from Curran, bowled into the surface and Wade doesn't have the pace to work with, swung across the line, connected it well, but straight down Stokes's throat at deep mid-wicket. A reverse cupped catch and Australia now need 12 off 3 balls. Wade c Stokes b Sam Curran 21(15) [4s-1 6s-1]
Sam Curran to Wade, THATS OUT!! Caught!!
Sam Curran to Wade, no run, brave brave bowling from Curran - length ball outside off, Wade lost his shape as he swunbg hard, gets an inside edge onto his boot, rolls to the left of Buttler and he aiin't taking the run
12 needed off 5
Sam Curran to Wade, FOUR, clubbed, perfect start to the over, length ball around off, Wade swivels across and then hammers the pull over square leg, one bounce and over the ropes
16 needed off the final over. Could it be Curran or will Buttler trust Woakes? It's Curran, can he get his yorkers right, if he misses - Wade will make the most of it

Nathan Ellis, right handed bat, comes to the crease
Topley to Daniel Sams, out Caught by Harry Brook !! Four and OUT for Sams - he has his bat on his back, knew this could have been a clincher - length ball outside off, right in the zone for the lofted drive, Sams gets under it and drills it hard and flat, didn't get the elevation, Brook settled under it at long-off and holds onto a fine catch.
