It was an exciting Test and Bangladesh have proved worthy of themselves, although they ended up on the losing note. As Rahim said in the post-match presentation, they need to play more matches to become a more matured Test playing nation. On the other hand, England have started their 7-Test sub-continent tour on a winning note. They barely scraped through here and have bigger challenges lying ahead. But it's always nice to start with a win. On that note, this is Pradeep signing off on behalf of Vineet Ananthraman and Sriram. Test cricket continues with Pakistan looking to convert their massive advantage into a series winning win in Abu Dhabi. Change tabs and join us for all the action. For now, cheers and bye..

Before signing off from what has been an eventful Test, here are some stats for you to chew upon, credit to our stats editor, Deepu Narayanan

* This is also the first time that Bangladesh took 20 wickets against England in a Test match

* Unbeaten on 50+ on Test debut in 4th innings in a loss: T Freeman, 1924. F Hayes, 1973. Mohd Wasim, 1996. K Pietersen, 2005. T Southee, 2008. Sabbir Rahman, 2016.

* The 22-run defeat is the narrowest margin of loss for Bangladesh in terms of runs. Previous lowest was 77 vs West Indies, Dhaka, 2012.

Stokes: 'I think we knew it would be either myself or Broady, the ball was reversing a lot and as Cook said, the new ball was round the corner as well. The tour has started well, but we have a long winter ahead. Happy that I chipped in with both bat and ball, I didn't want to give my wicket away, there were plenty of fielders around the bat and the ball was playing tricks. We wanted to make sure that we batted for a long period of time, bowling in the afternoon during nets helped us in this match. The conditions were balmy and very hot.'

Ben Stokes is the Man of the Match for his all-round performance

Alastair Cook: 'It was a decent night's sleep actually (yesterday). I didn't think, looking at the wicket, we would be here on Day 5. Credit to both sides, it was a difficult wicket, I thought we batted well on this surface. The quality of our pacers stood out, the ball was reversing, we had three bowlers who could reverse the ball, we could have had the new ball and brought the spinners, but I knew they (Bangladesh) would come out attacking. It would have been a gamble, but the new cherry was helping the spinners, with some uneven bounce on offer (gives the example of Rahim's wicket). Thankful for our excellent bunch of supporters. Stokes balances our side, we can play with an extra bowler and he can bat as well. He is a seriously good player, handy to be in any team. The spinners did OK, but they will improve. They haven't bowled on such pitches before, they will come good in the near future. This is what Test cricket is all about, it keeps testing us in all aspects of the game.'

Mushfiqur Rahim: ''It was an even game, I thought the boys showed character, happy with the way we played after being away from Tests for the last 15 months. I think if we had managed to score 290 odd in the first innings, we could have chased down the target. The partnership between Stokes and Bairstow was very important, we will take some positives from this game. Sabbir has been outstanding for us, Mehedi was excellent in his first game. We will have a look and think about the pitch for the second Test, it was difficult but not unplayable. We will have to come up with good plans, we have a couple of good spinners who can take 20 wickets, we will have to execute our plans better.''

As expected, it was a very short stint on Day 5. Bangladesh came in with plenty of hope, England arrived with nervous anxiety, Cook trusted his pace bowlers to do the job and Stokes stood out, in what has been a wonderful Test for the all-rounder. Sabbir continued to expose the No. 10 batsman, Taijul Islam, he survived a few anxious moments before being pinned in front of the stumps - given out after umpire Dharmasena said no, his 8th decision that was overturned in this Test. Shafiul had five balls to survive, but he managed just two. Lots of hugs in the England dressing-room, they know that they have escaped a banana skin. A case of so-close-yet-so-far for Bangladesh. Heartbreak for their fans who were very vocal throughout the five days. Spare a thought for Sabbir Rahman, he must be feeling gutted. England win by 22 runs and take a 1-0 lead in the 2-Test series. Presentations coming up in a while..

Stokes to Shafiul, out Lbw!! Shafiul has been given OUT LBW, he wants a review. Did he play a shot? The bat came down way too late, after the ball had crashed into the pads, I don't think that will save him, umpire's call on hitting the stumps, England win. Stokes is mobbed by his teammates, he has saved them from a huge humiliation. Sabbir walks off gutted, perhaps, he will brood over the idea of exposing the tailenders to reverse swing. Coming to the ball, this was pitched up and tailing back into the right-hander, Shafiul had made up his mind about letting the ball go by but panicked when he saw that the ball was coming back at him, tried to bring his bat down - too late though and it crashed onto the front-pad. The impact was outside off, but since he didn't offer a shot, it wasn't an issue, it was going on to crash into the outside half of off-stump. Enough for England to feel relieved and celebrate their win. Shafiul lbw b Stokes 0(2)

Stokes to T Islam, out Lbw!! Loud shout for LBW and Cook wants this one to be reviewed. Was the ball doing too much? Fair delivery, Taijul shuffled a long way across was struck in front of middle. No inside edge, says UltraEdge. But was the angle taking it down? He was a fair way forward. Three REDS, Taijul is OUT. Taijul cannot believe that the call has gone against him, he is down on his haunches, the crowd has gone completely silent. The only noise is that of the England fielders, now, he begins the slow and painful walk back to the pavilion. Coming to the ball, Stokes slanted this one back into the left-hander, Taijul went a long way across on the flick and missed, it struck him in line with middle and Hawk-Eye reckoned that it was crashing into the leg-stump. England are one wicket away from saving embarrassment, Bangladesh need another 23 runs. T Islam lbw b Stokes 16(33) [4s-2]

Broad to T Islam, 1 run, Taijul will keep strike for the next over, looks like Sabbir has a lot of confidence in him. This was full and on his pads, clipped away past square leg for a single

80.5

Broad to T Islam, no run, very full and just outside off, Broad is getting the ball to tail away slightly, but the line is just outside off, allows Taijul to jam it back towards the bowler

80.4

Broad to T Islam, no run, tad fuller and angling back into the left-hander, from round the wicket. Taijul prods across and nudges it towards square leg
