A cracking game to start the series off. If this is the sign of things to come, we should be in for a lot more thrills in the coming days. A day's break before the action resumes, same place and same time. Hope you enjoyed our coverage of this game. Until next time, this is Hari Sadanandan signing off on behalf of Kumar Abhisekh Das and Siva. Cheers!

Jos Buttler | England captain: We are delighted to win the game. We spoke a lot about the conditions before the game. It was the toughest conditions for us to face as a group. Malan's knock was a lesson for all of us on how to adapt on pitches like these. There was plenty in the wicket for both the seamers and spinners. If we are completely honest with ourselves, we can improve in the bowling as well. I thought we gifted a lot of extras. Plenty of areas to work on, but that's a good thing to have when you have won the game. Small partnerships on wickets like these are of great value.

Dawid Malan | Player of the Match: The time here in Bangladesh (in the BPL) definitely helped me. It was really tough out there. I was telling Jos that if they got another 30-40 runs, we'd really have a tough time. Happy to dig in there and get across the line in the end. I think it's expected (to have a tough chase) on a pitch like this. We did well to have a couple of partnerships, Bangladesh did bounce back well and we know how good their spin attack is. He (Rashid) reminds us always about how good his batting skills are. He handled the pressure really well.

Tamim Iqbal | Bangladesh skipper: I thought the position we were in, we could have at least gotten 30-35 runs more. Was a difficult wicket, especially against spin. We didn't start that well but got a good partnership through the middle overs, and then lost three quick wickets at the end, I think that was crucial. I thought this wicket was a 250 surface, we were on track but then lost too many wickets. We bowled really well and fielded extremely well. But sometimes, you need to give it to an innings like the one Malan played. I thought we tried everything we had in the bowling options. We kept all the catching options. we kept it really tight. I'm really proud of the bowling. As I said, one man's innings made the difference. We know that if we have runs on the board, we have the bowling to defend them.

19:51 Local Time, 13:51 GMT, 19:21 IST: Quite the old-school ODI game this - a throwback to the 1990s and 2000s when a 200-ish score produced cracking games on slow turning pitches. Bangladesh were always under-par with their total but their usage of home conditions through their spin attack helped them to drag the game really close. There were situations when they were on top and looked like favourites to win but England had one man who was determined to grind it out till the very end. In the ultra-explosive England white-ball team, Malan is probably the odd one out but it's in games like these that he is in the team for. To hold the innings together and shepherd the side through choppy waters. The pitch was as foreign as it could be for an English batter but Malan showed great temperament to hold one end up. Jacks and Moeen gave some sort of support but it was his unbroken stand with Rashid that proved pivotal. The England leg-spinner produced a priceless innings of his own, showing lots of grit as the duo blunted Bangladesh's pressure to get their team across the line. The hosts will feel bitter-sweet, they sure had their moments but it has to be the batting that takes the blame for this loss.

Shanto to Malan, FOUR, fittingly Malan finishes things! An inviting half-tracker, he rocks back and pulls it cleanly over mid-on. Races away and England seal a thrilling three-wicket win to go 1-0 up

48.3

Shanto to Adil Rashid, 1 run, slower and fuller, Rashid skips down the track and whips it away past mid-wicket

48.2

Shanto to Adil Rashid, no run, flat off break, keeps really low and hits Rashid on the back pad, he missed the pull completely and there is a loud LBW appeal from Bangladesh. Struck outside the line

48.1

Shanto to Malan, 1 run, slower and fuller around off, Malan defends with soft hands towards cover

Najmul Hossain Shanto [1.0-0-3-0] is back into the attack

Just a hit away, England. Malan might want to finish it quickly, even if he isn't a hot-headed fellow at the crease. Part-time offie is brought back on.

Mustafizur to Adil Rashid, no run, shortish again around off, Rashid stays back and knocks this towards mid-wicket

47.5

Mustafizur to Adil Rashid, no run, on a length outside off, Rashid punches it to mid-off

47.4

Mustafizur to Adil Rashid, no run, a desperate review really as this was always pitching well outside leg, straightens to ping Rashid on the pad and it was hitting the stumps for sure. But the ump rightly didn't agree to the LBW appeal as he thought it was pitching outside leg. He is right as ball tracking confirms

Bangladesh review for LBW. Certainly hitting the stumps but this has also surely pitched outside leg. At least that's what it seemed like in real time. Oh yes, appears to have landed way outside leg. But we'll go through with the process as is the norm. Flat line on UltraEdge and ball tracking stops at the pitching part as it's well outside leg.

47.3

Mustafizur to Malan, 1 run, hint of width on offer and Malan slashes uppishly over backward point, down to third man

47.2

Mustafizur to Malan, no run, slower and much fuller on off, Malan digs it to short cover

47.1

Mustafizur to Adil Rashid, 1 run, back of a length well outside off, Rashid punches uppishly down to third man

Mustafizur Rahman [7.0-0-40-0] is back into the attack
