The embarrassment of three back-to-back series defeats, the burden of justifying turntops against South Africa, the indifference of the flat pitches this series, and then the enmity with the tosses; this isn't the greatest Indian Test side, but to do what they have done, against all odds and injuries, with the young and old running riot, stands the team in good stead. They are now on a 18-match record-breaking unbeaten streak and have gulped oppositions 4-0, 2-0, 3-0, 3-0 and now 4-0 since their last defeat at home, which ironically was to England at the Eden Gardens in 2012. That's about it from here. It was a pleasure bringing all the action, across five Tests, to you. For now, your commentator Pratyush Sinha takes leave, and so do Pradeep, Raju Peethala and Kumar Abhisekh Das. If you had doubts about India being cricket's toughest destination, this series was an arrogant reminder. Cheers, early season's greetings, let go, ta-ta!
Dressing room scenes: Kohli is on the arm-chair. Jadeja holds the trophy - as tiny as it is - and shakes it up for Kohli to burst into a arms-aloft roar. Hardik Pandya is also spotted. Vijay has a double V-sign. Lovely scenes. "Finally," says Kohli staring into the camera and caps it off with another thumbs up, phew!
Anurag Thakur, BCCI President, hands over the Anthony De Mello Trophy to Virat Kohli. Gestures his team to join over behind the 'Champions' board, Kohli occupies a side-spot and has a thumbs-up for the cameras. Rest of the team has a 'victory sign'. Karun Nair is in the middle, holding the silverware. This is such a redemption for India. Outspun, outsmarted, outskilled the last time England were here, collapsed to an embarrassing 3-1 loss overseas to make it worse, and now finally beat England in a Test series, after eight years.
Virat Kohli - captain, India: "(Couldn't have asked anything more) and especially after winning the series 3-0 and performing like this. It's an evidence of the character of this side and what the guys prepare like for a Test match, playing for the country. They take a lot of pride and it was evident in the way we batted and bowled. We wanted the youngsters to do well. KL had a good domestic season but didn't have a great outing and then comes and almost gets a double century. Karun didn't have two good Tests and then does this. It's always tricky when you have scored 477 and then concede a lead of 281. Mentally and psychologically, it is always a dent. We knew that. We realized that once we got a couple of wickets, it will be a downward slide. They don't want to be in a position after getting so many runs and be in a losing position. Jadeja did the job in both the innings. Hit right areas and made it uncomfortable for the batsmen. Intensity was top class. Very proud. Toss and pitches were out of the equation. We were up against big totals and we won by an innings. Doesn't happen too often in Tests. We work hard everyday and believe in us. We don't care about what's happening outside; what matters is what each one of us thinks about the other. There's lot of respect and friendship in that dressing room and it's evident on the field. Nobody is playing for himself. Every time we were put under the pump, we have tightened up on giving away wickets at crucial time, especially after intervals. We have improved on that. The lower order has deflated the opposition, scoring 200+ three times, and their hard work in the nets showed. Our pace was quicker than their's, even the consistency was better, and it was very proud moment for me as an Indian captain, seeing the fast bowlers stepping it on. Kudos to the hard work they have put in in the past few months."
Alastair Cook - captain, England: "You can't have excuses. India are the better team, here, and they deserve to win. This was a very good fifth day wicket. Turned from the rough apart from the odd ball. We got ourselves in a good position at lunch but weren't good enough to bat out the day. It was about missed opportunities. We dropped crucial chances and India kept punishing us. Credit to Virat, they have outplayed us. It's a hard thing to say as professionals, saying that we haven't been better than the opposition. Our dropped catches have cost us. We just haven't scored enough runs and not taken wickets. It is a tough dressing room to be in. We tried as hard as we can but weren't good enough. Very tough (to play five Tests in six weeks). It's a tough place to come and win, and we have not been good enough."
Virat Kohli - Man of the Series. His quotes later.
Karun Nair - Man of the Match: "It will take a couple of days to sink in. Last night I was busy replying to all the texts and wishes, so couldn't sleep. Amazing feeling when you contribute to a win. Hats off for playing so well and we won it 4-0, like we always wanted too. Not much celebration in the dressing room yesterday; they congratulated me but we wanted to win first. There's a lot to learn - looking at players like Viray, Rahane, Vijay, Pujara - in the dressing room. I try to learn and get better."
A charged-up Ravi Shastri is on with the presentations! He's panting as he speaks. I am too, as I type. This will be one long presentation, get ready! N. Srinivasan gets a loud cheer from a good crowd that's turned up on a Tuesday.
See them celebrating! There's a lap of honour around the ground and then Vijay, the local boy, is herded by the handshaking, hugging groundsmen who did a wonderful job. The pitch was feared to be too moist for comfort, but turned out to be a good batting pitch, thanks to coal-drying of the pitch. And to get the demolished sightscreen up, the outfield playable, and the training facilities working, as scarced England and India were for practice before the start of this game, is truly stunning. Hats off to Chennai's groundsmen; India's landmark win is a tribute to all the sweat they put in.
3:57pm local: India needed 10 wickets at the beginning of the day, were made to persevere with England at 103/0, and Cook, Jennings and the pitch looked set to defy them, until Jadeja stepped up. That's the thing with this Indian side: it manufactures heroes with induced genius. Nair snaffled the catch one-handed, runs to the stumps and uproots one. And so does Kohli, to let out the loudest of roars. Figures of 7/48 for the left-arm spinner, and on the back of Ashwin's misfortunate spell that could have had England all-out twice on a better day. He was wicketless in the second innings, at home, on a day five pitch, and that's a testament to how good India are as a unit right now. Umesh, Ishant and Mishra grabbed one apiece and that was it for England. Pitch was never a roadblock today; their performance-triggered self-doubts were, and the latter won over them. Devoured them.

Jadeja to J Ball, out Caught by Nair!! India slaughter home a 4-0 series win. A full ball turning and bouncing from round the wicket, Ball had his weight back as he prodded at this delivery and edges it to second slip, where Nair takes a one-handed stunner to trigger wild celebrations. That ball was flying until Nair plucked it out. First 10-wicket haul for Jadeja which also happens to be his best figures in Test cricket. How good is he? J Ball c Nair b Jadeja 0(3)
Jadeja to J Ball, THATS OUT!! Caught!!
India win!
Jadeja to J Ball, no run, turn and bounce for Jadeja. Looped on off-stump and sharp spin past an uncertain forward defence
Jadeja to J Ball, no run, slow and full, Ball shuffles into his crease and keeps it out
Jake Ball, right handed bat, comes to the crease
Jadeja to Broad, out Caught by Pujara!! India one away. The flight on this has Broad coming forward but that's the peril of doing that to Jadeja. The ball kicks up with little turn, brushes the bottom glove with searing lift, pings the chest and pops to leg-slip. Lots of confusion whether Broad will go for a review, took his time but Buttler rebutted it in the end. Decides not to review and walks. Broad c Pujara b Jadeja 1(16)
Jadeja to Broad, THATS OUT!! Caught!!
Jadeja to Broad, no run, opens the forward defence this time
Jadeja to Broad, no run, full offbreak that gets a soft outside edge. Soft hands and the slip was never in business. Dies rightaway
